It all started in primary school when I felt compelled to dish out my very own custom nutrition and fitness programs to those friends who I thought needed the help. Needless to say, this innate "need" to encourage those around me to follow a healthy lifestyle stayed with me throughout primary school, high school and eventually university when I decided to make my hobby into a career. I went on to study a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition and then a Masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics along with a qualification in Personal Training. There I was, standing in my graduation gown and academic cap, the future ahead of me with so many possibilities to help people be healthier and eat better. I got my first gig working as a clinical Dietitian in a tertiary hospital where I saw one sick patient after another who couldn't be bothered eating or talking to a Dietitian. All they wanted was to be healthy again and enjoy life as they once did, if only they had a second chance. That's when I realised that I wanted to prevent these people from turning up to hospital when it's too late. I wanted to make a difference further up the stream before they got to the waterfall's edge. I knew then and there that my calling was to educate, promote and encourage a healthy, wholefood lifestyle that would not only help prevent chronic disease but allow people to live their best life and to literally glow from the inside out. This is why I do what I do. I absolutely LOVE seeing the joy and sense of accomplishment in my clients when they have turned their lifestyle around for the better. It puts a smile on my face every time.
I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian currently based in Sydney, however, due to regularly moving across cities around Australia my business is mostly based online. My approach is very much based around wholefood eating and I strive to deliver nutrition education in a way that is fun and easy to understand whilst debunking nutrition misinformation and fads. I practice in all areas of nutrition, however I am particularly passionate about weight management with a focus on mindfulness and intuitive eating, digestive issues and specialty diets including intolerances.
My nutrition coaching style is individualised and holistically customised to each client that I work with. I specifically tailor my recommendations to suit each person's unique nutritional needs and goals, thereby helping them achieve optimal health and a happier life. My passion is to make healthy eating practical and easy to incorporate into a busy lifestyle. Whilst I love measuring success with numbers and evidence-based nutrition, I always keep the big picture in mind and consider the individual differences of each client.
The science of nutrition is very exciting and dynamic. It is always changing and new evidence emerge on a daily basis. My nutrition practices and recommendations are evidence-based and focus on the best practice guidelines. I endeavour to stay up-to-date with the latest evidence in nutrition and my approach will reflect this as I grow as a nutrition professional and continue to learn of new research.
I'm obviously a nutrition nut, but I love many other things in life! I have a really fun time in the kitchen experimenting and being creative with food. Whilst I like to eat healthy most of the time, I also love my treats as part of a balanced diet. Personally I think it is really important to treat yourself occasionally to maintain a healthy relationship with food. When I'm not in the kitchen or helping my clients reach their nutrition goals, I love to keep active outdoors. We are really lucky in Australia with amazing weather to do outdoor workouts most days of the year. I love to mix up long and short-distance running with sprint training and high-intensity circuits incorporating weights. I also love swimming in the ocean, soaking up vitamin D, photography, crafting and sewing, interior decorating and upcycling second-hand treasures I find at opshops. I love travelling and exploring the world and discovering the beauty of the great outdoors. My favourite food in the whole wide world is fruit, especially mangoes and figs. I also LOVE chocolate, avocados and freshly baked bread.
I studied a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition at Curtin University and Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. During my undergraduate studies, I also completed my personal training qualifications with a Certificate III and IV in Fitness at the Australian Institute of Fitness. Following my graduation of the bachelor degree, I enrolled in the Masters program and completed a 2-years post-graduate Masters degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. Since then, I have worked as a nutrition professional in many areas of practice and have since completed the Sports Dietitian qualification through the Sports Dietitians Australia(SDA) in Canberra, Australia.
I hold full Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) status with the Dietetic Association of Australia (DAA) as well an Accredited Practising Sports Dietitian status with the SDA.
